Other lines: Main Network | Bernina | Bellinzona-Mesocco | Chur-Arosa | Vereina

The Chur-Arosa Railway was the last section of the narrow gauge network of the Grisons. This makes it also the latest line of the Rhaetian Railway as it exists today (In 1999 the new Vereina line will be opened...). The modern construction of the long ferro-concrete viaducts and the use of a relatively high voltage direct current prove this point.
Before construction begans, there had been various other prjects. One of them, for example, negotiate the first ascent from Chur to the valley of the Plessur by means of rack-rail sections. Instead, the route now follows the streets of the upper part of the town. The Chur-Arosa Railway has always been linked to the Main Network of th RhB at Chur, which enables the exchange of passenger coaches and good wagons.
The amalgamation with the RhB was the beginning of the modernization of the ChA. Up-to-date remote control signal boxes and shuttle trains characterize the Chur-Arosa line, which especially in winter successfully copes with an extraordinarily heavy weekend traffic
. In near future it is planned to change the power supply from 2400 V direct current to 11 kV single phase alternate current. The locos Ge 4/4 I, which work on the Main Network, were modernized to build th enew trains then.
